The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old butcher, Selim Ayodele, over the alleged stabbing to death of his 26-year-old colleague, Ibrahim Wasiu, following a disagreement at their workplace in Alagbole, Ogun State.
The incident occurred on October 18, 2026, after the two men had finished their day’s work at a cow meat-selling outlet .
THE INCIDENT
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the case was reported at Ajuwon Police Station at about 8 p.m. on the day of the incident, prompting a swift police response.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the disagreement started over who should sweep the floor.
“During the altercation, the suspect allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed the deceased in the left side of his chest before twisting the weapon,” Babaseyi said.
THE VICTIM
The victim was rushed to Life Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.”His remains have been deposited at Life Channel Private Mortuary, Lanbe, Ajuwon, for autopsy,” Babaseyi added.
THE INVESTIGATION
The police said Ayodele was in custody as investigations continued ahead of his prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to prompt response to incidents, thorough investigations and the lawful prosecution of offenders.
He also urged residents to exercise restraint and resolve disagreements peacefully, while encouraging members of the public to report criminal incidents promptly .
WHY IT MATTERS
The death of Ibrahim Wasiu is a tragedy that highlights how quickly a minor disagreement can escalate into lethal violence.
A dispute over sweeping the floor ended with a man dead and another facing a murder charge. Two families have been shattered over something that should have been resolved with a word.
The police have promised a thorough investigation. But no investigation can bring Wasiu back.
ValidViewNetwork reports that the suspect remains in custody. The investigation continues.
