OWODE-YEWA — Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have thwarted a suspected cult initiation rite, arresting three secondary school students in Owode-Yewa.
The suspects, aged 12 and 18, were intercepted following actionable intelligence regarding a planned clandestine gathering code-named “Kito Day,” which was slated to draw students from various secondary institutions across the area.
According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the command received intelligence reports on October 22, 2026. Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the Divisional Police Officer in Owode-Yewa mobilized detectives who raided the designated location in close collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN).
Recovered Exhibits
During the operation, security operatives successfully disrupted the assembly and recovered several dangerous items allegedly intended for the initiation ceremonies. The recovered exhibits include:
- One English axe
- Two knives
- One short cutlass
- One rubber toy gun
- A school bag
Transfer to SCID for Prosecution
The police command has expressed grave concern over the creeping infiltration of secondary school students into clandestine fraternities, warning parents and school administrators to step up vigilance.
Authorities confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) at Eleweran, Abeokuta, for discreet profiling, exhaustive investigation, and subsequent legal action against all apprehended individuals and any collaborators still at large.
