Veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has died at the age of 66 after battling stage-four cancer.
Ogogo’s death was announced by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during an Instagram Live session on Sunday, August 23, 2026.
The development comes just days after the actor’s family publicly disclosed the severity of his condition and appealed for urgent medical assistance.
Kira and her sister, Lima Taiwo, had revealed that Ogogo was battling stage-four cancer and had appealed to medical professionals, hospitals and cancer specialists for help.
The family had earlier rejected reports of his death after a false report circulated on social media on August 18.
His daughter, Lima, described that report as fake and urged the public to stop spreading unverified information.
However, on Sunday, Kira announced during an Instagram Live session that the veteran actor had died.
Ogogo was one of the most recognisable figures in Yoruba cinema, with a career spanning several decades. His death comes after an intense outpouring of prayers, medical appeals and support from colleagues, fans and well-wishers across Nigeria and beyond.
More details on the circumstances surrounding his death are expected. ValidViewNetwork reports that the Nigerian entertainment industry has lost one of its most respected veteran Yoruba actors.
May his soul rest in peace.
