The Delta State Government has wielded the big stick, announcing the immediate and indefinite suspension of the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Hon. Izeze Rume Yakubu Reuben. The drastic measure follows explosive allegations linking the cabinet member to a violent, bloody assault on the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Protocol, Mr. Simon Mudi—widely known as “Temple”.
The altercation occurred during a tense political gathering at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) conference centre in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area. According to sources, the venue played host to a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) when political disagreements boiled over into physical violence. Mudi was allegedly pounced on, beaten, and left in a pool of blood before being rushed to the hospital by the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government Council, Anthony Ofoni.
Government Vows Unbiased Probe
In an official statement released by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, the administration made it clear that the suspension was enacted to pave the way for an unhindered, independent inquiry by security agencies.
”The suspension is to enable the security agencies to carry out an unbiased investigation of allegations associating him with the assault on the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol… to ensure that the process is carried out without interference,” Dr. Emu stated.
Emphasizing the administration’s zero-tolerance stance on lawlessness, the SSG reiterated that the state remains heavily invested in public safety and the preservation of human dignity. Crucially, the government stressed that these foundational principles of law and order apply universally—”even when institutions of the State or serving public officials are involved.”
Growing Political Fallout
The incident has sparked widespread political murmurs across the state, drawing sharp divisions and intense scrutiny over safety and conduct among political appointees. Prior to the government’s official clampdown, the violent episode had triggered conflicting accounts from party and government quarters before top officials confirmed the gravity of the assault.
