NSCDC Dismisses 37 Officers, Sanctions 79 as Crackdown Targets Corruption, Arms Trafficking and Pipeline Vandalism

Nigeria’s anti-corruption drive within its security institutions took another significant turn on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, as the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) announced sweeping disciplinary actions against dozens of its personnel while unveiling fresh arrests linked to pipeline vandalism, illegal firearms trafficking and attacks on critical national assets.

ValidViewNetwork reports that the Corps dismissed 37 officers, sanctioned a total of 79 personnel for various acts of misconduct and arrested 12 civilian suspects during separate intelligence-led security operations across the country.

NSCDC Widens Internal Cleanup

Speaking during a press briefing at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja on August 5, 2026, Commandant-General Ahmed Audi, represented by NSCDC spokesperson Babawale Afolabi, said the disciplinary actions followed extensive internal investigations and administrative reviews.

According to the Corps, disciplinary proceedings have been concluded for 75 officers, while four additional personnel are still undergoing administrative processes over separate allegations.

The sanctioned officers include one Assistant Commandant-General, two Deputy Commandants, 35 senior officers and 37 junior officers. The offences ranged from job racketeering and illegal recruitment to financial misconduct, sabotage, negligence, theft, dishonesty, absenteeism and other violations of service regulations.

Thirty-Seven Officers Lose Their Jobs

The most severe disciplinary measure announced on August 5 involved the dismissal of 37 personnel after investigations established various acts of misconduct.

The penalties imposed by the Corps include dismissal, compulsory retirement and recommendations for criminal prosecution where investigations established criminal liability.

Audi maintained that discipline remains essential to maintaining public confidence in the Corps.He stressed that rank would not shield any officer found guilty of violating established rules.

Mining Marshals Investigation Concluded

Among those dismissed were two operatives attached to the NSCDC Mining Marshals unit. The officers were recommended for criminal prosecution following investigations into the February 2026 operational incident in Nasarawa State that claimed the life of their commander.

Investigators reportedly found no evidence that the incident was premeditated. However, the Corps concluded that the officers unlawfully confronted illegal miners with firearms without proper operational authorisation.

According to the Commandant-General, their conduct amounted to gross misconduct, negligence and indiscipline. The investigation also cleared Mining Marshals Commander John Onoja, the lead prosecutor and other management officials of allegations linking them to the incident.

Audi described those allegations as false and unsupported by available evidence.

Four Personnel Still Face Disciplinary Panels

The Corps disclosed that four officers remain under active disciplinary investigation. Three of them were transferred from the Nigerian Army Corps of Military Police over alleged illegal dealings involving arms and ammunition.

The fourth officer is being investigated over alleged negligence and misconduct involving the treatment of a teenage domestic worker.

Audi directed that all disciplinary cases should be concluded without unnecessary delay while criminal allegations proceed before competent courts.

He nevertheless reminded the public that every accused officer remains entitled to the constitutional presumption of innocence until proven guilty.

Security Operations Net Twelve Suspects

Beyond the internal disciplinary actions, the Corps announced fresh operational successes against criminal networks threatening national infrastructure.

Security operatives arrested four suspected railway vandals in Sabon Wuse within the Federal Capital Territory while they allegedly transported vandalised railway materials.

Authorities recovered a truck loaded with railway sleepers and other suspected stolen infrastructure materials during the operation.

The suspects are expected to face charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, malicious destruction of public property, terrorism-related offences and unlawful possession of suspected stolen items.

Pipeline And Power Infrastructure Remain Targets

In another operation, NSCDC operatives arrested two additional suspects in Angwa Dudu, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory.

Investigators alleged that the suspects vandalised electricity cables and power installations serving surrounding communities.

The Corps said efforts remain ongoing to recover additional stolen electrical equipment connected to the suspects. These arrests come as security agencies continue to battle increasing attacks on critical national infrastructure across different parts of Nigeria.

Illegal Firearms Syndicate Busted

The NSCDC also announced the arrest of six civilian suspects over alleged illegal firearms transactions. The principal suspect was intercepted in Enugu with military-grade weapons, ammunition, tactical equipment and materials suspected to be used for improvised explosive devices.

Subsequent intelligence-led operations in Enugu and Ebonyi States led to the arrest of five additional suspects allegedly connected to the network.

Recovered exhibits include pump-action guns, pistols, ammunition, communication gadgets, mobile phones, combat equipment and several identity documents.

The suspects remain in custody as multi-agency investigations continue, ValidViewNetwork reports.

Corps Reaffirms Zero Tolerance

CG Audi urged Nigerians not to judge the entire Corps by the misconduct of a few officers.He said the overwhelming majority of NSCDC personnel continue to serve the country with professionalism, integrity and dedication.

The Commandant-General reaffirmed that every officer found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures regardless of rank or influence. He also assured Nigerians that intelligence-led operations against vandals, illegal arms dealers and other criminal groups would continue across the country.

The latest actions reflect the Corps’ determination to strengthen internal accountability while intensifying the protection of Nigeria’s critical infrastructure.
