Troops Intercept Foreign Drug Courier for Lake Chad Terrorists

​Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have successfully intercepted a major logistics shipment of illicit substances and alcohol intended for terrorist groups operating within the Lake Chad Islands.

​The operation, which took place on Thursday, July 9, 2026, resulted in the arrest of 48-year-old Mrs. Rachael Samuel, a Chadian national from the Chari-Baguirmi Province. The suspect was apprehended during an intensive search patrol conducted by soldiers from Sector 3 along the Maiduguri–Monguno axis. She was reportedly en route to Kwatan Doron Baga in the Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State when she was stopped.

​According to a statement released by the Acting Military Information Officer, Capt. Mohammed Goni, the recovered cache included:

• ​Seven compressed bundles of suspected cannabis sativa (approximately 30kg).

• ​Two 10-litre containers of the prohibited substance hydromercuric chloride, locally referred to as “Suck and Die”.

• ​One carton containing 48 bottles of dry gin and 61 bottles of various herbal alcoholic beverages.

• ​Additional items, including a mobile phone, two ATM cards, and personal effects.

​Military intelligence indicates that these substances are frequently used by insurgent groups to embolden fighters, suppress fear, and facilitate violent operations. By seizing these supplies, the military has delivered a significant blow to the logistical support network of terrorists lingering in the Lake Chad region.

​The suspect is currently being held in military custody, with plans to transfer the case and the seized evidence to the appropriate law enforcement authorities for further investigation and prosecution. The Theatre Command has commended the troops for their continued vigilance, emphasizing that such intelligence-led operations remain a cornerstone of the ongoing mission to restore peace and security to Nigeria’s North-East.
