VIENNA — Nigeria’s new Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the Republic of Austria, Her Excellency Florence Ajimobi, has formally initiated her diplomatic mission. On Monday, July 6, 2026, Ambassador Ajimobi reached a significant milestone in her tenure by presenting her Copie d’Usage (a working copy of her credentials) to the Chief of Protocol of the Republic of Austria, Ambassador Maximilian Hennig.
This essential diplomatic procedure serves as a precursor to the formal presentation of her Letters of Credence to the President of Austria, the final constitutional step required for an envoy to assume full representative status. By delivering the Copie d’Usage to the Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs, Ambassador Ajimobi has secured the authorization necessary to begin essential functional activities, including engaging with Austrian government officials and overseeing the operations of the Nigerian Mission in Vienna.

Reflecting on the event, Ambassador Ajimobi expressed her gratitude for the warm and professional reception coordinated by the Office of the Chief of Protocol. She noted that this gesture reinforces the strong, cordial ties between Nigeria and Austria.
“I look forward to working closely with the Austrian Government to further strengthen our bilateral cooperation and advance our shared interests,” she stated following the meeting.
The former First Lady of Oyo State, who arrived in Vienna last week, has been tasked by the Federal Government with deepening Nigeria’s engagement in the Austrian capital—a major hub for international organizations. In addition to her bilateral responsibilities, she will serve as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to key global bodies headquartered in Vienna, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and various United Nations offices.
Her arrival and subsequent diplomatic commencement have been met with well-wishes from home, as leaders and stakeholders in Nigeria have lauded the appointment as a significant step for the nation’s foreign policy objectives and a testament to her commitment to public service.
As she settles into her new role, Ambassador Ajimobi is expected to prioritize economic and cultural diplomacy, aiming to foster greater synergy between Nigeria and its European partners.
