The United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has launched a sweeping enforcement campaign targeting immigration non-compliance, flagging 355 West African nationals for deportation under a new initiative dubbed “West Africa Operations Watch.”
In an unprecedented move aimed at public transparency, the DHS has published the names and photographs of the affected individuals directly on its official portal. According to federal officials, those on the list were identified through intensified screening protocols tracking visa overstays, unlawful entry, and systemic failures to comply with US residency requirements.
Nigeria and Liberia Hit Hardest
A data breakdown of the enforcement list reveals that Anglophone West African nations bear the brunt of the impending deportations. Nigeria tops the list with 110 citizens slated for removal, followed closely by Liberia with 94 nationals. Together, these two countries account for nearly 60% of the total flagged individuals.
Ghana also sees significant enforcement action with 30 citizens listed, while Senegal (19) and Cameroon (15) lead the Francophone nations targeted by the operation.
The complete regional breakdown includes:
- Nigeria: 110
- Liberia: 94
- Ghana: 30
- Senegal: 19
- Cameroon: 15
- Ivory Coast: 14
- Gambia: 14
- Mauritania: 12
- Cape Verde: 11
- Burkina Faso: 9
- Niger: 8
- Guinea: 6
- Togo: 6
- Mali: 5
- Benin: 1
- Guinea-Bissau: 1
A Shift Toward Public Disclosure
The decision to publish photos and full identities marks a distinct, more aggressive public relations strategy by the DHS regarding immigration enforcement. While the agency maintains this public database serves “transparency,” immigration advocates and diaspora community leaders are already raising concerns regarding privacy, stigmatization, and the potential impact on families remaining in the United States.
The DHS has reiterated that the “West Africa Operations Watch” is a strictly regulatory framework designed to address backlogs of unresolved immigration violations. For the 355 individuals named, the publication signals the final, critical stages of the US removal process.
