The Ondo State Police Command has urged residents of Odigbo Local Government Area to ignore widespread rumors of an imminent security breach and alleged school closures in the area, describing the reports as baseless.
In an official statement released today, June 2, 2026, the Command assured the public that no terrorist threats or security compromises have been recorded in Odigbo or its neighboring communities.
Heightened Surveillance Ordered
Despite declaring the area safe, the Commissioner of Police for Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, has directed a proactive scaling-up of security operations. Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and tactical units have been ordered to sustain heightened surveillance and visibility policing across the state.
According to the Command, special attention is being paid to:
- Academic institutions and school environments
- Public facilities and crowded areas
- Critical national assets
- Vulnerable community flashpoints
A Warning Against Fake News
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi Jimoh, emphasized that unverified reports only serve to create unnecessary panic and anxiety. He cautioned citizens against weaponizing social media to spread falsehoods that undermine public confidence.
”The security architecture within Odigbo Local Government Area and across the State remains robust and effective,” Jimoh stated, urging residents and students to go about their lawful daily activities without fear.
Call for Public Cooperation
CP Ohagwu reiterated that maintaining peace is a collective responsibility. He called on residents to remain vigilant and support law enforcement by providing timely, credible information to nip potential threats in the bud.
