ABUJA – The governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (popularly known as Yayi) gained significant momentum today as he was officially screened and cleared as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 Ogun State gubernatorial election.
The high-stakes screening exercise took place at the Kaduna Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja. It was presided over by the APC Governorship Screening Committee, led by the party’s Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr. Obi Okoye.
A Vote of Confidence
During the proceedings, committee members—including APC National Deputy Publicity Secretary Hon. Durosimi Meseko, National Youth Leader Mr. Abdullahi Dayo Israel, and Hon. Tolu Bankole—took turns to praise Senator Adeola’s track record. The committee described him as a “model for the APC,” citing his extensive developmental activities in government and his consistent loyalty to party affairs.

The successful clearance solidifies Adeola’s position as the frontrunner to succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun, following months of strategic consultations and his formal adoption as a consensus candidate by key state stakeholders in April 2026.
Pledging Continuity
Responding to his clearance, Senator Adeola pledged to uphold the “good works” that have defined his legislative career. He emphasized his commitment to the development of Ogun State and aligned his vision with the progressive, reformist national goals of the APC.

”I am deeply honored by the committee’s commendation. My focus remains steadfast: to continue working for the progress of our people and to ensure Ogun State remains a beacon of development under the APC banner,” Adeola stated.
A Powerful Show of Support
The Senator arrived at the screening venue accompanied by a high-powered delegation, signaling deep-rooted support from both the state executive and legislative arms. The entourage included:
- Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Deputy Governor of Ogun State.
- Hon. Ganiyu Hamzat (Gaco), Commissioner for LG and Chieftaincy Affairs.
- Hon. Olabimtan, Commissioner for Budget and Planning.
- Other notable leaders such as Hon. Kayode Amusan, Hon. Kunle Adeyemi, Hon. Babatunde Adejare, and several top government officials.
This development effectively sets the stage for the APC’s 2027 campaign in Ogun, focusing on a transition that prioritizes internal party cohesion and administrative continuity.
