AKUNGBA, ONDO STATE – The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has officially signaled the commencement of grassroots mobilization for the 2027 presidential election, urging Nigerians to prioritize “policy continuity” by supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term.
Speaking over the weekend during the inauguration of a specialized campaign structure in Akungba, Ondo State, the Minister emphasized that the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” requires an extended timeline to fully manifest its long-term benefits for the nation.
The Case for Continuity
Represented by the Chairman of the campaign group for the Akoko South West/East Federal Constituency, Abiodun Ogunbi, Tunji-Ojo maintained that the President has already laid a formidable foundation for economic and infrastructural recovery.
“President Tinubu has taken bold, often difficult decisions necessary to stabilize our economy,” the Minister stated. “His re-election in 2027 is not just a political goal but a necessity to consolidate the gains we are beginning to see in education, infrastructure, and national security.”
The Minister’s call comes at a strategic time, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently revised the 2027 election timetable to January 16, 2027, following the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026. With party primaries scheduled to begin as early as April 23, 2026, political stakeholders are moving swiftly to align their structures.
Grassroots Mobilization Strategy
The newly formed “Bunmi Tunji-Ojo (BTO) Campaign Group” has been mandated to penetrate the smallest units of the electoral system. The Minister charged the group to aim for a “95 per cent” vote share for the President within their constituency.
“You must take the message of the President’s achievements to every unit, ward, and local government,” he directed. “It is your duty to engage with the people and show them the measurable progress recorded under this administration.”
Healing Party Rifts
Beyond external campaigning, the Minister highlighted the need for internal cohesion within the All Progressives Congress (APC). He tasked the campaign group with a secondary mission: reconciling members who may have been aggrieved following the party’s recent congresses in Ondo State.
“Unity is our greatest strength. We must identify and bring back any party members who feel sidelined to ensure we go into the 2027 polls as a formidable, undivided front,” Tunji-Ojo added.
The event, which drew heavyweights from across the APC state chapter, underscores the intensifying political activity in the South-West as the 2027 cycle approaches. Supporters at the event pledged to begin immediate house-to-house advocacy to secure a “landslide victory” for the incumbent.
