DAURA — In a move that has sent ripples through the political landscape of Katsina State, Yusuf Buhari, the son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has reportedly finalized plans to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives.
Reliable sources within the All Progressives Congress (APC) indicate that the younger Buhari is seeking to represent the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’Adua Federal Constituency. This development marks Yusuf’s formal entry into the political arena, a sphere his father dominated for decades. While the Talban Daura has previously maintained a relatively low profile, focusing on private ventures and traditional responsibilities, insiders suggest that recent consultations with key stakeholders and youth groups in the constituency have solidified his resolve to run.
The move is seen by many as an attempt to sustain the political legacy of the Buhari dynasty in the North-West. Political analysts suggest that Yusuf will likely enjoy significant support from his father’s loyalists, who still wield considerable influence in the region. However, he is expected to face stiff competition from seasoned politicians within the party and the opposition, who may challenge the notion of “dynastic succession.”
As the 2027 election cycle begins to take shape, Yusuf’s candidacy is expected to be a major talking point, testing the APC’s internal cohesion in Katsina State and the weight of the Buhari name in a post-Muhammadu Buhari era.
