‘You Stood by Me’: Igboho Endorses Olajengbesi for Osun Federal Seat

IBADAN — Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has declared support for lawyer Pelumi Olajengbesi ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election in Osun State.

Olajengbesi is the Accord Party candidate for the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency.Igboho announced his position when Olajengbesi visited him in Ibadan.

The endorsement is rooted partly in their personal history.

Igboho recalled that Olajengbesi provided legal support after security operatives raided his Ibadan residence in July 2021. Igboho later fled to the Benin Republic, where he was detained.

Igboho also said Olajengbesi intervened when he wanted to bury his mother and faced threats of arrest.

According to him, the lawyer approached the National Security Adviser and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on his behalf.

“You stood by me during my difficult season, and I will rally support for your campaign,” Igboho said. He described Olajengbesi as “a breath of fresh air” and said the constituency needed a change in representation.

Olajengbesi previously served as spokesperson for Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election campaign and has already secured the Accord Party ticket for the federal constituency.

He is seeking to challenge the incumbent APC lawmaker, Wole Oke. The endorsement adds another layer to an increasingly active 2027 political contest in Osun.

Earlier in the year, the Ijesa North Traditional Rulers’ Council also endorsed Olajengbesi’s ambition.

Olajengbesi has presented his campaign around youth representation and a departure from what he describes as the recycling of old political ideas.

The election remains some distance away, and the final contest will involve the candidates and structures produced through the electoral process.

For now, Igboho’s intervention places his considerable public profile behind the Accord candidate.
