OWERRI — Operatives of the Imo State Police Command have apprehended a woman following the severe and brutal physical assault of a young girl placed in her custody.
The arrest was effected on Thursday, August 6, 2026, after a prominent local journalist and activist, Chidiebube Okeoma, intervened and led a team of law enforcement officers to the suspect’s location to rescue the battered victim.
According to preliminary details gathered from the rescue operation, the suspect—reportedly a native of Udi in Enugu State—subjected the minor to intense physical abuse, allegedly using a stick to inflict gruesome injuries that left the young victim’s eyes severely damaged and swollen shut.
Disturbing footage of the aftermath, circulated online by the activist, exposed the extensive trauma suffered by the child, prompting widespread outrage across social media platforms.
Insiders familiar with the incident disclosed that both the victim and the prime suspect hail from Enugu State. Following the successful raid and rescue operation, the traumatized minor was immediately evacuated from the scene and rushed to a medical facility, where doctors are battling to save her sight and provide urgent psychological and physical care.
Police authorities have launched a formal investigation into the incident, assuring the public that the suspect will face the full weight of the law upon the conclusion of preliminary inquiries. Child rights advocates within the state have since called for a swift and transparent prosecution to serve as a deterrent against escalating domestic violence and child abuse cases in the region.
