The social media was recently awashed with the unthinkable story of a Chief Medical Director, a supposedly life saver who unfortunately allegedly became a “life taker” and a serial one for that matter.

That a Chief Medical Director could become a serial killer contradicts logic and reasoning. Unfortunately, this is the story of Dr Adio Adeyemi Adebowale, the former Chief Medical Director of Kiama General hospital, in Kaiama Local government area of Kwara state.

Truly, the heart of man is wicked and only God can know it . We have had cases of unbelievable killers but two critical issues struck me in the case of Dr Adio Adeyemi Adebowale.

Dr. Adeyemi is educated and belong to one of the most noble professions with the core goal of preserving lives. I am yet to read a statement from Nigeria Medical Association denouncing his membership of the Association though the suspect claimed that he has not renewed his membership in the last two years. Unfortunately, his education did not insulate his mind against criminality. Rather than his heart being committed to saving lives, it was committed to taking lives.

Secondly, at age 36, he has risen to become a Chief Medical Director whereas some of his age mates for one reason or the other are yet to find their footing. It cannot be said that poverty pushed him into taking an erratic decision yet he dwelled in criminality.

When the news broke that a Medical Doctor killed and stole the vehicle of his victim, many would have discountenanced the story as a fabble. It was indeed funny to me. It would have been different if a patient died under medical procedures but alas he allegedly killed his cab driver and that was just the beginning.

At 36, Dr Dr Adio Adeyemi Adebowale has allegedly killed three identified people while the fourth is yet to be identified.

His case came to the front burner with the killing of a cab driver, Emmanuel Agbovinuere on September 3, 2022. Dr Adio had allegedly injected the cab driver with lethal substances, dropped his corpse on the road and stole his car in Benin, Edo State. What an act of inhumanity!

From Benin, Edo State, he had the heart to drive the stolen car to Osogbo in Osun State where he was arrested.

Further investigations by the Police have revealed that the same Chief Medical Director killed his girlfriend simply identified as IfeOluwa who has been declared missing since November 2021.

IfeOluwa must have thought that she was befriending an important personality, a Medical Doctor not knowing that she was dining with her potential killer. May we not befriend our enemy. What a pity! His heart was sold out to the devil as he allegedly killed a lady that they must have exchanged affections and savoured each other.

That the Chief Medical Director allegedly buried IfeOluwa in his office in Kaima General hospital made me shiver. What is Dr. Adio looking for? What could have prompted his actions? Is it wealth or position? In my considered opinion, he has both. Not many of his age in the contemporary Nigeria would have outshined him in achievement. Who are his collaborators as the digging of the shallow graves could not have been a solo effort?

The Police deserves a special commendation. It would have been unreasonable to think that a Chief Medical Director would bury victims in his office. Thank God that the Police crack team removed the tiles. One wonders if he laid those tiles on his own.

“The police investigation team and members of the community present were shocked to find the decomposed body of the CMD’s former girlfriend, Ifeoluwa buried underground after the tiles were removed.”

Other items recovered in the detained doctor’s office include two telephone handsets found in the handbag of one of the ladies, all found in the doctor’s drawer.

There were also two female handbags, a female wig, a veil and a female pants found in the office

The third victim of the alleged serial killer is Nofisat Halidu found inside the trash bin. Nofisat was declared missing by her husband Mr Halidu in Kaima since November 22, 2021.

“The CP immediately ordered the setting up of a high-powered investigation team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in the State CID, to unravel the mystery surrounding the kidnap case and other unresolved cases before his assumption of Office.

While the Police will unravel the mystery behind the insatiable thirst of Dr Adio for murder and possibly come up with other findings, it is for us to realise that noone regardless of level of education or status in the society is to be trusted and therefore we must encourage our people to be security conscious, leaving adequate information about their movement. May God Almighty protect us all from the likes of Dr. Adio Adeyemi Adebowale.

The interaction of Dr Adio Adeyemi with the Press showed a man with a hardened mind. The Police must have done a great job to extract leading information from him . He is ready to prove his innocence in the law court.
