Sole Survivor of Air India Crash Shares Harrowing Escape from Fiery Disaster

Ahmedabad, India — In a miraculous tale of survival, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, the sole survivor of yesterday’s devastating Air India plane crash, has recounted his terrifying experience as the aircraft plunged to the ground and exploded into a massive fireball.

The flight, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad. Mr. Ramesh, a London resident traveling with his wife and child, was seated next to an emergency exit door, a detail that likely saved his life. He described how the plane abruptly began descending and suddenly split in two mid-air, ejecting him from the fuselage before the explosion.

“I don’t know how I came out of it alive,” Mr. Ramesh told Indian broadcaster Doordarshan from his hospital bed. “For a while, I thought I was about to die. But when I opened my eyes, I saw I was alive. I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out.” He tragically witnessed two cabin crew members perish in the crash.

Dr. Dhaval Gameti, who is treating Mr. Ramesh in Ahmedabad, reported that although he is disoriented and has multiple injuries, he is stable and out of immediate danger.

Eyewitness footage from the crash site showed Mr. Ramesh walking away with visible wounds before emergency responders rushed him to the hospital. His brother, who was also on the flight, is presumed dead.

Mr. Ramesh recalled the chaotic moments before impact: “The pilots tried to raise the jet, but it went full speed and crashed into a building. I heard a loud noise, and when I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran.”

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash. Early reports suggest a mechanical failure or pilot error may have contributed, but no official cause has yet been confirmed. Rescue operations and recovery efforts are ongoing.
