KWARE LGA, Sokoto State – A joyous wedding celebration descended into tragedy on Sunday morning, as a violent clash erupted between youths from the neighbouring villages of Gidan Haki and Basasa in Kware Local Government Area, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to nineteen others.
The incident, which occurred around 9 am, stemmed from a sudden misunderstanding between youths from the two communities during the wedding ceremony. Despite the intervention of security operatives, the situation rapidly escalated, leading to a full-blown confrontation.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama reported the clash, highlighting the severity of the violence. “A misunderstanding broke out between youths from Gidan Haki and Bassa, and it escalated into a violent clash between youths from the two neighbouring communities,” Makama stated.
The identities of the deceased remain unknown at this time. However, law enforcement has taken swift action, arresting fifteen male suspects in connection with the incident. “A police source said 15 male suspects have so far been arrested in connection with the clash and are currently in custody, assisting with the investigation,” Makama added.
In response to the deadly incident, the Sokoto State Commissioner of Police has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to conduct a thorough investigation. To prevent further violence and restore calm, additional security operatives have been deployed to the affected communities.
