After five Yoruba nations agitators hijacked a Radio Nigeria station – Amuludun FM, one of the agitators said they were told that a separate nation has been declared in Nigeria.
The Yoruba nation agitators were arrested after the invaded the radio station located in the Moniya area of Ibadan, Oyo state’s capital at about 5:30 am on Sunday.
They were reported to have stopped the programme and started making their own broadcast with comments like “Oodua Nation has come to stay”, “Yoruba no more under the Federal Republic of Nigeria” and “United Nations will soon declare Oodua Nation”.
The suspects namely: Noah Atoyebi, Gbenga Adeleke, Abdulganiyu Mustafa, Bashiru Kehinde and Fajola Elijah were later arrested by security operatives.
One of the suspects who spoke when police paraded them said they were asked to take over the radio station by one man identified as “Black Lion”.
The suspect said they were told that security operatives would not arrest them if they invaded the radio station.
“When we entered the radio station, we did not fight or beat anyone. We came for peace,” he said.
“We were told that they have declared Yoruba nation. We were told to go and recover our lands and that the police and army will not do anything against us.
“We are suffering in poverty and there is no money in the land. One man called Black Lion was the one who told us to invade the radio station.
“We were told that officials of the UN are everywhere and that cameras are watching us.”
LAGOS POLICE ARREST YORUBA NATION AGITATORS
Similarly, the Lagos State Police Command on Sunday arrested two Yoruba nation agitators after they stormed a police station.
The police said the agitators were arrested in the early hours of Sunday when they stormed Alausa Police Division chanting, “Yoruba Nation has taken over.”
In a series of tweets posted on the Lagos Police Command handle, @LagosPoliceNG and signed by the Lagos PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin, the police confirmed that some officers were also injured while trying to disperse the agitators.
The police said, “The agitators, numbering fifteen, had stormed Alausa Police Division at about 0535hrs today, chanting, ‘Yoruba Nation has taken over,’ and injured some police officers who attempted to disperse them. Two of the agitators were arrested while the rest took to their heels following the prompt and coordinated response of the police.
“The suspects who were arrested with charms, dangerous weapons and different offensive insignias bearing Yoruba Nation Army, stormed Alausa Division along with others at about the same time another set of the group was attempting to take over a radio station in Ibadan, Oyo State.
“They claimed they came to officially inform the Police that the United Nations had granted approval for the take-off of the Yoruba Nation. The arrested suspects are currently assisting the police in the ongoing investigation into the subversive plans of the group as well as their network of sponsors, all of whom will soon be unveiled and brought to deserved justice in the overriding internal security interest of the state.”
