UNIMED Appoints Ojo as Substantive Registrar, Bamigboye as University Librarian

The University of Medical Sciences, Ondo, has appointed Mr Vincent Ifedayo Ojo as its fourth substantive Registrar and Professor Olusola Bamidele Bamgboye as its new University Librarian.

Ojo’s appointment follows the tragic death of the previous registrar, while Bamgboye brings over two decades of library administration experience from FUNAAB and Hillside University.

A New Era for UNIMED’s Administration

ValidViewNetwork gathered that the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo, has announced two major administrative appointments, filling key leadership positions that will shape the institution’s direction in the coming years.

The Governing Council of the university has appointed Mr Vincent Ifedayo Ojo as the fourth substantive Registrar of the institution. In a separate development, the university also confirmed the appointment of Professor Olusola Bamidele Bamgboye as its new University Librarian.

Ojo’s Appointment: A New Chapter After Tragedy

Ojo’s appointment comes at a significant moment for the university. The institution has been without a substantive registrar following the tragic death of the third registrar, Mr Ezekiel Imoleayo Adeniran.

Adeniran was appointed as the third substantive registrar in August 2024 but was found dead at his private residence in Akure.

Prior to his UNIMED appointment, Ojo served as Senior Deputy Registrar in charge of the Human Resources Division at Federal University Lokoja.

His appointment has been hailed by the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, who described it as a “resounding affirmation of your exceptional administrative competence, unwavering integrity, outstanding professionalism, and remarkable dedication to the Nigerian university system” .

The appointment places Ojo in the institution’s top administrative registry role, marking a change in leadership responsible for managing official records and key administrative processes.

Bamgboye’s Appointment: A Librarian with Deep Roots and a Digital Vision

Professor Bamgboye’s appointment as University Librarian took effect on August 3, 2026, following its ratification by the Governing Council at its extraordinary meeting held on April 15, 2026.

His tenure is for a non-renewable five-year term.

Bamgboye brings to UNIMED an experienced library administrator and scholar with more than two decades of professional experience.

He served as Deputy University Librarian at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) from 2017 to 2023, having previously held several positions in the institution’s library system.

Until his appointment at UNIMED, he was Vice-President and University Librarian at Hillside University of Science and Technology Library, Oke Imesi in Ekiti State.

A Professor of Library and Information Science and a graduate of the University of Ibadan, Bamgboye has close to 50 peer-reviewed articles published in reputable local and international journals and has served as a reviewer for several academic journals.

He is a member of major professional bodies, including the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN), the Nigerian Library Association (NLA), and the Association of Applied Information Management Professionals.

Digital Transformation on the Horizon

The university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Isaac Oluyi, said the appointment came at a time when university libraries are rapidly evolving from traditional repositories of books into technology-driven centres for research, digital scholarship, innovation and knowledge sharing.

“With his extensive experience, Bamgboye is expected to bring fresh impetus to the transformation of UNIMED’s library services, particularly in digital library development, electronic information resources, research support and improved access to up-to-date medical and health-science literature,” Oluyi stated.

For a specialised institution such as UNIMED, where academic programmes and research are heavily dependent on current scientific and medical literature, Bamgboye’s expertise could prove particularly valuable in expanding access to electronic databases, strengthening research information services and supporting the University’s growing research community.

A FUNAAB Tradition of Excellence

ValidViewNetwork notes that Bamgboye’s appointment continues a proud tradition of FUNAAB-trained library professionals and administrators being appointed to lead libraries and Registries at other Nigerian universities.

Professor Wasiu Lawal, a former Deputy University Librarian at FUNAAB’s Prof. Wole Soyinka Digital Library, was appointed the pioneer University Librarian of the newly established Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies, Iragbiji (FUADSI), Osun State, in July 2025.

His appointment was hailed by FUNAAB’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Babatunde Kehinde, as a reflection of the calibre of intellectuals nurtured within the university community.

Similarly, Mrs Emilomo Joy Alawode, a Deputy Registrar at FUNAAB, was appointed as the third substantive Registrar of McPherson University in Ogun State in December 2025.

Alawode had previously served as the pioneer Visiting Deputy Registrar at McPherson University in 2012, where she played a pivotal role in laying the institution’s administrative foundation.

At FUNAAB, she managed over 17,500 students and 3,500 staff records and introduced digital administrative tools that improved operational efficiency by over 60 per cent.

These appointments underscore the growing national recognition of FUNAAB’s administrative depth and its consistent grooming of Principal Officers for universities across Nigeria.
