Tragic Passing of Nigerian Care Worker in UK Ruled Suicide

​An inquest has officially recorded a verdict of suicide following the death of Beatrice Amarachi Solomon, a 27-year-old carer who passed away at her home in Stoke-on-Trent earlier this year.

​Mrs. Solomon, who moved to the United Kingdom from Nigeria on a skilled worker visa in November 2023, was found unresponsive at her residence on Norris Road, Stanfield, on the evening of March 4, 2026. Her husband, Damian Butler, discovered her upon returning home from his shift as a delivery driver during a scheduled break. Despite the arrival of emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:21 p.m..

​During the proceedings, the court heard that Mrs. Solomon had been experiencing significant mental health challenges over the preceding 12 months. Mr. Butler, 40, provided testimony to the inquest, confirming that his wife had made previous attempts on her life.

​Pathologist Dr. Jones confirmed the cause of death as oxygen deprivation. Following a thorough investigation, police ruled out any third-party involvement in the tragedy.

​Coroner Li Hammond-Naylor, presiding over the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent inquest, concluded that the evidence indicated a planned act. “It is clear to me that Beatrice had researched and planned how to take her own life,” the coroner stated during the hearing, before offering her sincere condolences to the grieving family.

​Mrs. Solomon, described in an obituary as a “much-loved and loving wife” and a “wonderful mother,” leaves behind her husband and their young son, Theodore. She is also survived by her siblings and a wide circle of friends who have expressed their profound loss.
