A top New York cancer doctor, Krystal Cascetta, has killed herself and her baby in her Westchester home in what police are calling a ‘murder-suicide.’
Dr. Cascetta, a Hematology-Oncology specialist with Mount Sinai, shot her baby before turning the gun on herself on Saturday morning.
Preliminary reports say the 40-year-old sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound at around 7am after entering her baby’s room with a loaded weapon and opening fire.
The age and gender of the baby have not yet been released by police but a due date shared online suggests that Cascetta was due in March of this year.
A statement from state police said: ‘The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) Somers are investigating a murder/suicide in the town of Somers.
‘A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 7:00 a.m., Krystal Cascetta entered her child’s room and shot her baby and then turned the gun on herself.
‘The scene is consistent with a murder/suicide.’
Dr Cascetta graduated from Albany Medical College, according to her biography on the Mt. Sinai website, where she was given an award for her compassion while caring for patients.
She had lived in the Granite Springs area of Somers in New York State at the $1 million home with he husband, Tim Talty.
