President Bola Tinubu is set to inaugurate the African Counter-Terrorism Summit in Abuja on Monday, as announced by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, through a statement shared on Facebook on Sunday.
The summit, organized by Nigeria with the support of the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, will focus on the theme, ‘Strengthening Regional Cooperation and Institution Building to Address the Evolving Threat of Terrorism.’
It aims to gather heads of state, high-level government officials from Africa, representatives of international organizations, multilateral institutions, diplomatic corps members, and civil society groups.
The main objective of the summit is to bolster multilateral counter-terrorism collaboration and redefine the global response to terrorism in Africa, emphasizing the importance of African-led and African-owned solutions.

The event will involve discussions on the nature and severity of terrorism threats in Africa, with a focus on establishing concrete strategic priorities and measures to combat terrorism.
Additionally, it aims to promote deeper regional cooperation, enhance member states’ institutional capacity, and facilitate the exchange of best practices and knowledge.
Among the notable attendees will be Ms. Amina Mohammed, the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General.
The summit will conclude with remarks from Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser, and Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, the Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism at UNOCT.
