President Bola Tinubu has issued a two-week ultimatum to find a solution to the ongoing clash between farmers and herders in the country.
This clash has resulted in the loss of lives and extensive damage to farmlands and produce in several states.
Tinubu made this announcement on Monday in Minna during the inauguration of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport and the presentation of mechanized farm implements by Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago.
Expressing concern over the persistent farmers-herders conflict, Tinubu emphasized the need to address the issue urgently.
He highlighted the economic sabotage caused by roaming cattle invading farmlands and consuming crops, stressing the importance of reorienting herders and providing proper infrastructure for cattle rearing.

Tinubu assured Governor Bago of his commitment to providing a comprehensive program within two to three weeks to tackle the problem effectively.
Furthermore, Tinubu used the occasion to kickstart the Niger State agro-processing development growth, urging state governors to prioritize payment of workers’ salaries.
In his response, Governor Bago reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to agricultural and infrastructure development.
He acknowledged the state’s efforts in revamping critical infrastructure like the Minna Airport, now renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Airport, which was previously in a state of disrepair.
Governor Bago highlighted the significance of agriculture in addressing economic challenges and pledged to continue pursuing initiatives for growth and prosperity in Niger State and Nigeria as a whole.
