In a solemn ceremony held on Saturday at the National Christian Centre (Ecumenical) in Abuja, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, announced a significant directive from President Bola Tinubu. The President has ordered the immediate employment of all four children of the late Mrs Grace Adayilo, the former Head of the FCT Civil Service, who passed away on September 1, 2025.
This compassionate decision aims to offer financial support and stability for the family in the wake of their profound loss, as Mrs. Adayilo was the family’s primary breadwinner. The directive was revealed during the funeral service attended by government officials, family, and well-wishers mourning the respected civil servant.
In his heartfelt tribute, Minister Wike fondly remembered Mrs. Adayilo, affectionately known as “Mama Africa,” for her exceptional dedication, humility, and loyalty throughout her distinguished career. “We all know that death is an inevitable part of life, but some losses cut deeper than others,” he said. “It is always heartbreaking when someone you work closely with and respect suddenly departs without any warning.”
Wike recounted his first engagement with the late Mrs. Adayilo, recalling her appointment as Permanent Secretary before she was elevated to Head of Service by President Tinubu in October 2024—a historic moment as she was the first female and indigenous individual to hold this prestigious position. He praised her unwavering commitment, reliability, and the positive impact she made in the FCT administration.
The Minister further assured that the FCT Administration would cover all burial expenses and continue to support the Adayilo family. He expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved family, emphasizing the unpredictability of life and the need for communities to stand together in times of sorrow.
The family, represented by Bishop Jonathan, expressed profound gratitude for the President’s gesture and Minister Wike’s compassionate leadership. Mrs. Adayilo was remembered not only as a devoted public servant but also as a philanthropist who touched many lives, mentoring orphans, widows, and less privileged members of society.
The sudden loss of Mrs. Grace Adayilo leaves a significant void in the civil service and the broader FCT community, but the administration’s efforts to care for her family underline a commitment to compassion and support for Nigeria’s public servants and their loved ones.
May her soul rest in perfect peace.
