ABUJA – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu marked his 74th birthday on Sunday, March 29, 2026, with a somber call for national resilience, opting for a low-key observance in deference to the country’s current economic climate.
In a personal message issued from the Aso Villa, the President expressed gratitude for the “glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel” regarding his administration’s reforms, while acknowledging the “temporary setbacks” caused by the escalating Middle East crisis. The conflict—which has seen Brent Crude surge past $102 per barrel—has introduced fresh inflationary pressures on the domestic economy, threatening to disrupt a year-long trend of declining inflation which stood at 15.06% as of February.
”Sacrifices Not in Vain”
Reflecting on his journey, President Tinubu thanked Nigerians for their “patriotism, solidarity, and support” since he initiated sweeping fiscal and monetary reforms in 2023.
”I am reminded of the challenges we’ve faced since we initiated our reforms,” the President stated. “I’m glad that our sacrifices have not been in vain. The credit for the positive outcomes we have achieved does not belong solely to me or our Renewed Hope team; we achieved these gains together.”

The President specifically requested that well-wishers refrain from elaborate celebrations, consistent with his tradition of aligning his personal milestones with the “mood of the nation.” He expressed deep appreciation to the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their tributes, as well as citizens who placed goodwill advertisements in various media.
Looking Toward the Third Anniversary
As the administration approaches its three-year milestone in May, the President reaffirmed his commitment to building a “stronger, prosperous, and more resilient nation.”
Economic analysts note that while the Middle East crisis has boosted Nigeria’s oil receipts above the $64.85 budget benchmark, the corresponding rise in landing costs for refined petrol remains a significant hurdle for the administration’s disinflation goals.
”It is my deepest conviction that we shall succeed in building a brighter future for our citizens and future generations,” Tinubu concluded. “With your continued support, we shall overcome.”
