Port Harcourt, Rivers State – Three young women have come forward with harrowing accusations of physical assault against a man during a night out at Black Box nightclub in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on Thursday, June 12, 2025, has sparked widespread outrage after the victims shared graphic videos detailing their ordeal online.
One of the women, visibly injured with a bloodied scalp, claimed she was hit with a bottle. “Now the only thing we did wrong is to go out as girls. That’s the only thing we did wrong. So is every girl in Nigeria a prostitute?” she lamented, indicating the alleged attack stemmed from a confrontation where the man accused them of recording him without consent.
Another victim described a brutal assault after they had paid to reserve a table at the club. She recounted, “He said if they born me well, I should sit in the seat I paid for. This man and his friends started breaking bottles. Injured my friend, they broke her head. She was bleeding so badly. The other of my friend they broke her teeth. One of her teeth was like it had gone off. Me myself they pushed me downstairs. Stripped me off, stripped me naked. Like beating me mercilessly. As if I was one that stole something. All because he came with a MOPOL. He came with bodyguards or whatsoever.”
The third woman, with a visibly missing front tooth, appealed to human rights organizations for intervention, stating, “They need to get those men. Because young girls these days can’t even go out and just be secured.” The women alleged that the assailant is a known regular at Black Box nightclub and has a history of similar aggressive behavior.
In response to the viral videos and public outcry, a man identifying himself as the founder of Black Box, with the TikTok username @datfairboy1, released a video statement condemning the violence. He described the incident as “pathetic” and emphasized, “Nobody, no human being, has the right to inflict physical wounds or injury on anybody, especially when nobody was a threat.” He further stated that he had visited the victims in the hospital and filed a formal complaint with security operatives.
The Rivers State Police Command confirmed on Friday, June 13, 2025, that it has launched an investigation into the matter. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the command stated, “Regarding the lady that was assaulted in the club. The DPO within that jurisdiction has expedited action by inviting the hotel manager and the alleged suspect to his office for immediate investigation. I would also like to use this medium to invite the victims involved to come forward and make their statements.”
As of Friday evening, the alleged assailant has not publicly responded to the accusations. This incident has reignited concerns about safety for women in public spaces and calls for swift justice against perpetrators of violence. Police are urging the victims to formally provide their statements to aid in the ongoing investigation.
