The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has publicly declared its firm support for the creation of a National School Crime Prevention Corps (NSCPC) to enhance security within schools and foster a safer learning environment. TESCOM Chairman, Apostle ‘Biodun Sanyaolu, emphasized the importance of safeguarding lives and property in schools as foundational to academic success during a recent meeting with the NSCPC executive, led by Commandant Folayinka Ige, at TESCOM’s Abeokuta office.
Apostle Sanyaolu stated that a crime-free and secure school atmosphere is critical for both academic and extracurricular activities. He acknowledged the ongoing efforts by the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, along with allied agencies, to strengthen security measures across all educational institutions in Ogun State. He encouraged the NSCPC to submit a formal proposal to TESCOM to facilitate official recommendations to the relevant government authorities to support the legislative backing for the corps.
The Chairman, who was recently named an ambassador of the NSCPC in the state, praised the impact and commitment of the corps in crime prevention across schools, assuring that TESCOM is fully invested in the initiative for the benefit of students, school authorities, parents, and other stakeholders. Commandant Folayinka Ige expressed gratitude for TESCOM’s proactive support since its inception and explained the visit aimed to formally introduce NSCPC’s work and seek further legislative endorsement at the Ogun State House of Assembly.
This alignment between TESCOM and NSCPC reflects a broader state commitment, including other initiatives like whistle-blowing schemes and a Police School Protection Squad, to secure Ogun State educational institutions comprehensively against crime and social vices, thereby fostering safer conditions for teaching and learning .
