Scores of bandits were reportedly killed in a fierce clash between two rival groups in the Hayin Alhaji to Munhaye forest of the Tsafe Local Government Area in Zamfara State.
According to local resident Mohammed Sanda, who spoke with The PUNCH on Sunday, the confrontation occurred last Saturday, resulting in heavy casualties on both sides.
Sanda explained that a group of bandits from neighboring Katsina State had invaded communities in Zamfara State with the intention of kidnapping residents.
However, the notorious bandits’ kingpin, Ado Alero, who is a local of the area, intervened and prevented the rival bandits from carrying out their plan.
The ensuing gun battle between the two groups led to the deaths of numerous bandits from both sides.
Sanda noted that residents of the area were currently gathering at the battleground to witness the aftermath and inspect the bodies of the neutralized bandits.
He also mentioned the presence of over 20 abandoned motorcycles at the site of the conflict.

Sanda recounted the sequence of events, stating that the clashes began when the bandits from Katsina attempted to abduct residents, prompting Alero’s group to intervene and protect the villagers.
The confrontation escalated into a prolonged exchange of gunfire, causing panic among the residents who fled for safety.
As the situation unfolded, Alero reassured the frightened residents and instructed them to remain calm amidst the chaos.
Sanda described the intense fighting that ensued for several hours before subsiding, leaving behind many casualties and abandoned motorcycles.
Concerning the disposal of the bandits’ bodies, Sanda mentioned the communities’ consideration of a mass burial due to the absence of security personnel.
He indicated the possibility of digging a large grave to inter the bodies before decomposition sets in.
When contacted for comment, the spokesperson for the state police command, ASP Yazid Abubakar, expressed unawareness of the development but acknowledged its significance in the ongoing fight against banditry, stating, “God is answering our prayers.”
