Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has made his first public appearance since his suspension, attending a Sunday service at the Salvation Ministries Headquarters in GRA, Port Harcourt. This comes days after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing escalating political tensions and security concerns. The declaration led to Fubara’s suspension, along with his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and all members of the state House of Assembly. President Tinubu appointed Ibok-Ete Ibas as the Sole Administrator to oversee the state’s affairs for an initial six months.
Fubara’s appearance follows mixed reactions to the state of emergency, with some supporting the move as necessary for stability and others criticizing it as unconstitutional. The National Assembly has endorsed President Tinubu’s decision, while former President Goodluck Jonathan expressed concerns that the action could negatively impact Nigeria’s image.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed Sole Administrator, Ibok-Ete Ibas, has begun implementing measures to restore stability in the state, including emergency security meetings and the release of withheld allocations for local government workers.
