SSANU AFUED CELEBRATES RELEASE OF DETAINED FUOYE LEADERS, CALLS FOR JUSTICE

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo (AFUED) Branch, joins our voices with joy and deep relief in solidarity with our esteemed comrades of SSANU, Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), on the release of their detained leaders; Comrades Faleye Benjamin, Ademola Mutiu, Oyelude Yekeen, Aluko Ayomikun, and Nwokeke Barnabas.

We acknowledge with profound appreciation the timely and fatherly intervention of the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, whose swift response brought a peaceful resolution to a situation that could have escalated into a serious industrial crisis within the university system.

Our heartfelt commendation also goes to the National President of SSANU, Comrade Mohammed Haruna Ibrahim, and the National Vice President (West), Comrade Abdulsobur Olayiwola Salaam, PhD, our dear Chairmen of EKSU and BOUESTI and other gallant Comrades for their decisive, courageous, and coordinated efforts in securing the release of our Comrades. Their actions once again affirm SSANU’s unwavering commitment to unity, justice, and the protection of workers’ rights across Nigerian Universities.

While we celebrate this victory for fairness and due process, SSANU AFUED condemns in strong terms the circumstances that led to the unlawful arrest and detention of our colleagues, reportedly instigated by the Vice-Chancellor of FUOYE, Prof. Abayomi Fasina. Such acts run contrary to the principles of industrial harmony, social justice, and the constitutional freedom of association guaranteed to all workers.

We urge the Honourable Minister of Education to take decisive action to prevent a recurrence of such anti-labour practices in any Nigerian university.
