Spain Storms Into World Cup Final With Clinical Win Over France

ARLINGTON, Texas — Spain has officially punched its ticket to the 2026 FIFA World Cup final, dismantling a formidable French side 2-0 in a masterful semifinal display at Dallas Stadium on Tuesday night.

The victory marks a triumphant return to the global stage for the Spaniards, who will now compete for their second world title. Their only previous final appearance—and subsequent championship—came in 2010.

A Tactical Masterclass

In a clash between two of the world’s premier footballing nations, Spain’s defense proved impenetrable, while their attacking transition consistently unpicked the French backline. The deadlock was broken in the 22nd minute after a moment of individual brilliance from 19-year-old phenom Lamine Yamal. Drawing a foul inside the penalty area after cleverly outpacing Lucas Digne, Yamal set the stage for Mikel Oyarzabal, who coolly converted the spot-kick past French goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The goal was significant, marking the first time France had trailed in any of their seven matches throughout the tournament.

Spain doubled their advantage in the 58th minute. Pedro Porro capped a fluid, “palatial” one-two passing sequence with Dani Olmo by burying a precise strike into the bottom corner. Despite the introduction of attacking talents like Désiré Doué and Rayan Cherki, France failed to find a breakthrough, with Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simón and defender Marc Cucurella anchoring a resilient defensive performance that neutralized Kylian Mbappé and the French frontline.

Looking Ahead

The result ends France’s bid for a third consecutive final appearance, having won the tournament in 2018 and reached the final in 2022. Didier Deschamps’ squad will now contest the third-place match this Saturday.

Spain awaits the outcome of the second semifinal between defending champion Argentina and England, scheduled for Wednesday, July 15. The final is set to take place this Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, where Spain will look to claim their second world crown.
