Renowned legal expert and former Nigerian Bar Association President, Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, has dismissed the sexual harassment allegations leveled against Senate President Godswill Akpabio by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as inconsistent and lacking evidence.
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, Agbakoba stated that the claims “fall short of the threshold required to establish sexual harassment anywhere in the world.” He emphasized that while it is important to encourage victims to speak up, allegations must be backed by solid evidence to ensure justice.
Representing Akpabio in the matter, Agbakoba revealed he had sent a letter to Akpoti-Uduaghan asking her to clarify contradictions in her widely circulated statements. He noted that these publications had caused significant reputational damage to his client, who reserves the right to pursue legal action.
Agbakoba highlighted a major inconsistency: Akpoti-Uduaghan alleged harassment on December 8, 2023, yet posted glowing tributes to Akpabio on social media the following day, praising him and celebrating an event in Uyo. He argued that this contradiction undermines the credibility of her claims.
The senior advocate concluded that the allegations lack sufficient legal merit and urged for a thorough examination of the facts.
