​WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, a pivotal and polarizing figure in American politics who served over three decades in Congress, passed away Saturday evening at his Capitol Hill home. He was 71.

​The District of Columbia medical examiner’s office released preliminary findings Sunday confirming that the South Carolina Republican died of an aortic dissection caused by arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
