Seattle Festival Shooting Leaves Three Dead

​SEATTLE — A family-friendly summer tradition transformed into a scene of absolute terror on Sunday evening when a shootout erupted at the crowded Seattle Center, leaving three people dead and four others wounded.

​The violence broke out at approximately 6 p.m. local time during the final stretch of the annual “Bite of Seattle” food festival. Thousands of residents and tourists were packed into the 74-acre park complex near the iconic Space Needle when a barrage of sudden gunshots sent panicked crowds scrambling for cover.

​According to Seattle Police Assistant Chief Tyrone Davis, investigators believe the incident stemmed from an exchange of gunfire between two individuals shooting at each other.

​Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene after life-saving measures failed. A third victim—identified as a 56-year-old woman—succumbed to her injuries later that evening at Harborview Medical Center.

​Four other individuals sustained injuries in the crossfire, including a 2-year-old boy, a 23-year-old man, and a 39-year-old woman. Another woman, 40, suffered minor injuries and initially declined transport to a hospital. Witness accounts described harrowing scenes of anguish, with vendors and attendees using makeshift supplies to treat bleeding victims on the pavement while masses fled.

​”People were hiding, were pushing, people were falling on the ground, baby strollers were falling,” festival attendee Estan Wakonabo told reporters, describing the immediate aftermath as pure chaos.

​Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson condemned the bloodshed in a late-night statement. “Impacted families are living through the worst moment of their lives, and an entire community is trying to understand how a gathering built around culture, connection, and joy ended in gunfire,” Wilson said.

​Police confirmed that one suspect was taken into custody shortly after the shooting, and two firearms were recovered at the scene. Authorities indicated that a second suspect, described as a young person, remained at large late Sunday night as the search intensified. Investigators have urged anyone with video footage or information regarding the active manhunt to contact the Seattle Police Department.
