Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed he remains available to play for Portugal, easing fears of an immediate international retirement following his controversial departure from the national team camp.

“If I am physically well, playing for my club, with goals I hope, after serving the suspension that may be applied to me, I will be available, as I have always been until today, to compete and win for our national team.”
Key Context and Fallout
- Broken Promises Allegation: Ronaldo asserted that he and Jesus agreed he would sit out matches against Norway and Denmark, an arrangement he claims the coach altered on matchday without notice.
- Apology Issued: While standing firm on his grievances, Ronaldo apologised to his teammates and the Portuguese public, stating he would accept any disciplinary actions issued by the Portuguese Football Federation.
- Manager’s Stance: Jesus has minimized the rift, maintaining that selection choices rest solely with the coaching staff while leaving the door open for the veteran forward’s future return.
Ronaldo, Portugal’s record appearance maker and all-time top scorer with 146 goals in 234 caps, also noted that he intends to stage proper farewell matches for his supporters before officially hanging up his international boots.
