Rivers State authorities have apprehended a 24-year-old man, Otamiri Prince, in connection with the abduction and sexual assault of a female job seeker lured through social media.
The arrest followed a formal report filed on April 11, 2026, by the victim, identified as 24-year-old Alice Thomas. According to police statements, the ordeal began in early January when the victim agreed to meet Prince—whom she had met online—under the guise of a professional or social engagement.
The Lure and Assault
Upon meeting at a designated location, Prince and his accomplices reportedly diverted the victim to Igwuruta. From there, she was forcibly moved to a secluded forest area in Ulakwo, located within the Etche Local Government Area.
The victim alleged that she was held captive, physically assaulted, and repeatedly raped. The suspects also reportedly dispossessed her of her personal belongings before her eventual release.
Police Investigation and Recovery
The newly appointed spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Agabe Blessing Kaborlo, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued Sunday in Port Harcourt. Kaborlo noted that the breakthrough was achieved through “technology-driven strategies” implemented under the current police leadership.
”The suspect has confessed to the crime,” Kaborlo stated. “During the arrest, operatives recovered several items, including an iPhone and a wig believed to belong to the victim.”
Public Safety Warning
In light of the incident, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, issued a stern warning to the public, particularly young women and job seekers navigating online platforms.

The Commissioner urged citizens to:

- Public Meetings: Ensure first-time meetings occur in well-lit, crowded public spaces.
- Share Itineraries: Inform family or friends of the exact location and person being met.
- Stay Vigilant: Avoid isolated areas or being moved to secondary locations.
While Otamiri Prince remains in custody pending a court appearance, a manhunt is currently underway to apprehend the remaining members of the gang still at large.
