Sunjay Kapur, a prominent Indian industrialist and polo enthusiast, tragically died on June 12, 2025, in England after suffering a fatal heart attack triggered by a bee sting during a polo match at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor. The 53-year-old chairman of automotive components giant Sona Comstar was reportedly stung inside the mouth by a bee, which caused a severe allergic reaction leading to anaphylactic shock and sudden cardiac arrest.
Medical experts explain that stings in sensitive internal areas like the mouth can cause rapid swelling, airway obstruction, and a drastic drop in blood pressure, which can be fatal. In Kapur’s case, the sting likely triggered a severe allergic reaction or anaphylaxis, precipitating the heart attack. Some reports also mention the possibility that the bee was swallowed, causing airway blockage and oxygen deprivation that could have contributed to the cardiac arrest.
Kapur was a well-known figure in business and high society, having studied in the UK and frequently participating in elite polo tournaments alongside British royals, including Prince William. He was also the former husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor and had three children from his marriages.
Just hours before his untimely death, Kapur expressed condolences on social media for the victims of the Air India crash in Ahmedabad, showing his empathy even in his final hours.
Tributes have poured in from friends, colleagues, and the business community. Sona Comstar mourned the loss of their visionary leader, while author and actor Suhel Seth expressed deep sorrow over Kapur’s sudden passing.
