The Ogun State Police Command has demonstrated its operational efficiency and commitment to public safety as a combined tactical team successfully rescued a kidnapped victim unhurt in the Onipanu area of the state.
In a statement, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ms. Omolola Odutola, explained that the incident occurred when five unidentified armed men invaded the residence of Alhaji Baki Atoyebi, switching off the generator to lure the occupants outside.
Unaware of the danger, the victim and another resident stepped out to inspect what they assumed was a mechanical fault, but were ambushed by the assailants, who subsequently abducted Alhaji Atoyebi.
According to Ms. Odutola, the armed men also carted away a POS machine, ₦900,000 in cash, three mobile phones, a power bank, and vehicle keys.
A few hours after the abduction, the kidnappers reportedly contacted the victim’s family, demanding a ransom of ₦30 million.
Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, promptly deployed a combined tactical team comprising operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Anti-Crime Section, Surveillance Team, Vigilante Group, So-Safe Corps, and local hunters.
The joint team traced the kidnappers to their hideout along the creek, where a gun battle ensued. Two of the suspects were neutralized, while others escaped with gunshot injuries.
Ms. Odutola confirmed that the victim was rescued unhurt and has since reunited with his family. His mobile phones and vehicle keys were also recovered from the scene.
