Abeokuta – The Ogun State Police Command has successfully concluded a high-stakes rescue operation, securing the freedom of Prince Idris of Okun Owa while dealing a significant blow to the criminal gang responsible for his abduction. The operation, which culminated in a fierce firefight, resulted in the neutralization of two suspects and the recovery of sophisticated weaponry.
The ordeal began on June 30, 2026, when armed assailants breached the security of the Prince’s residence in Okun Owa, forcefully abducting him. In response, Commissioner of Police (CP) Bode Ojajuni mobilized the Command’s elite Anti-Kidnapping Unit and specialized tactical squads, initiating a high-intensity, intelligence-led pursuit to track the movement of the syndicate.
The relentless pressure exerted by police operatives forced the kidnappers to release the victim on July 3. However, security forces continued their pursuit, utilizing advanced tracking technology and ground intelligence to locate the gang’s hideout in the Agoro/Imodi axis of the state.
When security operatives moved in to raid the location, the suspects engaged them in a violent gun battle. The police responded with tactical precision, ultimately neutralizing two of the assailants. While several other gang members managed to flee into the surrounding wilderness—many believed to be suffering from gunshot wounds—the law enforcement team secured the area.
A subsequent search of the hideout yielded significant evidence, including an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, various mobile communication devices, and a bag suspected to have been utilized for ransom collection. The remains of the deceased suspects have been transferred to a state medical facility for autopsy.
Following the success of the operation, CP Ojajuni lauded the bravery of his officers, emphasizing that the Command remains steadfast in its mandate to eradicate criminal networks across the state.
”Our resolve to cleanse Ogun State of such elements is non-negotiable,” the Commissioner stated. “We will not rest until every fleeing member of this gang is brought to justice.”
The Command is actively calling on members of the public to maintain heightened vigilance. Residents are urged to report any suspicious activities immediately via the “Gateway Shield” toll-free line at 0800 000 9111, or by dialing the emergency response numbers 09164859299 and 09154293464. Efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.
