The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly using a TikTok video to threaten violence against residents of Suleja who refuse to support a particular politician.

According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, operatives of the Suleja Area Command apprehended Alhassan Hussani, of Baban-Tunga in Suleja, on 2 September 2026 at about 4 p.m. The arrest followed the circulation of a video in which the suspect was seen brandishing a cutlass and a knife while issuing threats to attack members of the public unless they voted for the unnamed politician.

During interrogation, Hussani claimed he produced and posted the video in an attempt to solicit money from the politician in question. He insisted that no one had instructed or sponsored him to make the recording. The police said investigations into the incident remain ongoing.

The development forms part of a wider crime bulletin issued by the command, which also detailed other recent arrests, including those of suspected kidnappers from whom N1.045 million believed to be ransom proceeds was recovered. SP Abiodun urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to aid the fight against crime.

The case highlights growing concerns over the misuse of social media platforms such as TikTok to promote political intimidation and violence, particularly as Nigeria approaches future electoral cycles. Authorities have repeatedly warned against the brandishing of weapons or issuance of threats online, stressing that such acts will attract swift legal consequences. The identity of the politician referenced in the video has not been disclosed, and further details on the progress of the investigation were not immediately available.
