Abuja/Dutse, Nigeria – In a significant crackdown on violent crime, the Nigeria Police Force has announced a series of successful operations leading to the rescue of an 80-year-old kidnapped woman, the neutralization of six suspected criminals, and the arrest of twelve others across the FCT and Jigawa State. Police sources revealed that some of the arrested suspects are ex-convicts.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., has commended the gallantry of the operatives and reiterated the Force’s commitment to public safety and national security.
FCT Police Dismantle Armed Robbery and Carjacking Syndicate
In the nation’s capital, operatives of the FCT Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, successfully dismantled a notorious armed robbery and carjacking syndicate. The gang, responsible for a string of high-profile robberies and vehicle thefts, was intercepted in the Maitama area as they prepared to strike.
A fierce gun battle ensued when the criminals opened fire on the operatives. During the encounter, one of the gang’s most wanted suspects, Abdulmininu Bello, also known as Babanle, was neutralized. Seven other suspects were apprehended at the scene. Among those arrested were Ibrahim Muhammad (22), an ex-convict; Abubakar Abdullahi (22); Sarajo Yusuf (20); Sanusi Ali (51); Abubakar Sani; Isiaka Adamu, another ex-convict; and Abdullahi Isah.
Recovered exhibits include four AK-47 rifles, two locally made pistols with ten rounds of live 9mm ammunition, eleven rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition, one locally made shotgun, a 2004 Toyota Camry LE, and a red Boxer motorcycle.
Jigawa Police Rescue Octogenarian, Neutralize Kidnappers
Meanwhile, in a daring rescue operation in Jigawa State, the State Police Command successfully rescued an 80-year-old kidnap victim, Hajiya Hajara, and neutralized five members of a kidnapping gang.
Intelligence revealed that a group of approximately twelve armed bandits had abducted Hajiya Hajara from her residence in Sarbi Village, Minjibir LGA, Kano, and were attempting to escape through Jigawa State. Swift and coordinated action by combined teams of police operatives attached to the Jigawa State Command, alongside local security outfits, led to a raid on the suspected criminal hideouts between Danzomo and Medi villages.
During a fierce gun battle, five suspects were arrested, including the gang’s kingpin, Yahaya (35). Five other suspects were neutralized during the exchange of fire. The kidnapped victim was rescued unhurt, received medical evaluation at a hospital, and has since been discharged.
Exhibits recovered from this operation include two AK-47 rifles, one locally fabricated LAR rifle, fourteen live rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles, and two mobile phones.
The Inspector-General of Police urged the public to remain vigilant and continue reporting suspicious movements and gatherings in their communities, emphasizing the crucial role of public cooperation in enhancing national security.
