Plateau Police Nab Varsity Students Over Viral Assault Video

​PANKSHIN — The Plateau State Police Command has taken several female students of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin, into custody following a brutal, widely circulated video that captured the brazen assault of a fellow student.

​The shocking footage, which triggered outrage across social media platforms, reportedly stems from a bitter romantic dispute over a boyfriend. The video shows the suspects descending on their defenseless colleague within the Pankshin Local Government Area, while the violence was brazenly recorded on camera.

​Reacting swiftly to the public outcry, the State Commissioner of Police, Ayodeji Faniyan, ordered the Area Commander in Pankshin to immediately track down and apprehend those culpable.

​Confirming the arrests in a statement released in Jos, the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, revealed that the suspects would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet profiling and preliminary interrogation. He emphasized that the culprits will have their day in court once investigations are wrapped up.

​Condemning the incident, Alabo warned citizens against resorting to self-help or jungle justice, pointing out that violence remains a severe criminal offense. He further cautioned that individuals who record and upload violent acts online risk heavier legal consequences, noting that filming such degradation opens perpetrators up to cybercrime-related charges.

​”In the process of committing this crime, sometimes you commit several other crimes. It is not just you beating somebody or meting violence against your fellow human being; even having the mind to record it is cybercrime,” Alabo stated.

​The police have urged students and members of the public to channel grievances through appropriate institutional authorities or security agencies rather than taking the law into their own hands.
