Every city writes two guest lists for every major celebration. One belongs to the host. The other belongs to the streets. From the crowded bazaars of medieval Cairo to today’s bustling cities, large gatherings have always attracted more than invited guests.

Wealth draws admiration, but it also attracts opportunists. Lagos is no different. The city thrives on movement, commerce and spectacle. Yet beneath that vibrancy lies an unwritten rule many residents already understand. The larger the celebration, the greater the challenge of controlling everything beyond the gate.

Popular TikTok creator Peller says he learned that lesson during what should have been one of the happiest weekends of his life.

ValidViewNetwork reports that TikTok star Habeeb Hamzat, popularly known as Peller, alleged that suspected hoodlums stole several guests’ phones during his traditional wedding in Lagos. He made the allegation during a TikTok livestream after the ceremony.

Celebration Inside, Complaints Outside

According to Peller, the alleged thefts occurred outside the wedding venue. He said activities inside the ceremony continued peacefully.Guests later contacted him to report missing phones.

One female guest reportedly had her phone snatched shortly after arriving at the entrance. Peller said he has refunded affected guests for their losses, ValidViewNetwork reports.

“Agbero Don Occupy Lagos”

Peller said the crowd outside the venue grew beyond expectation. He claimed many of those gathered were not invited guests.

Describing the situation, he said:”Agbero don occupy Lagos.”He also alleged that a driver argued with an agbero who refused to leave the path of a vehicle.

According to Peller, he only learned about the confrontation after the celebration ended, ValidViewNetwork reports.

The White Wedding Gets A New Plan

The experience has prompted changes ahead of the couple’s next ceremony. Peller said his white wedding on August 8 will admit only about 100 guests. He also announced tighter security around the venue. The aim, he explained, is to prevent unauthorised persons from gathering outside the event.

ValidViewNetwork reports that security personnel will monitor access throughout the ceremony.

A Star Studded Celebration

The traditional wedding, tagged JP2026, attracted celebrities from entertainment and social media.

Guests included actress Iyabo Ojo, singer Zinoleesky, Priscilla Ojo, Tanzanian singer Juma Jux, Daddy Freeze, Papaya Ex, Tee Dollar and Aunty Ramota. Fuji musician Sule Alao Malaika entertained guests.

Peller and his bride, Elizabeth Amadou, popularly known as Jarvis, also received several expensive gifts. The gifts reportedly included ₦10 million from Cubana Chief Priest.

American content creator Gregory Pizarro Jr reportedly gave the couple $20,000. Real estate entrepreneur Lawrence Emmanuel reportedly donated a plot of land in Abuja valued at ₦150 million.

Businessman King Ochacho reportedly presented a furnished mansion in Abuja’s Life Camp Estate worth about ₦400 million.

The Lesson Beyond The Wedding

Cities often reveal their true character during moments of celebration. Historians have long noted that public festivals, royal weddings and sporting events expose the strengths and weaknesses of urban order more clearly than ordinary days.

Ancient Rome deployed extra guards during triumphal processions for the same reason. Medieval London increased patrols during fairs because crowds created opportunities for crime alongside commerce.

Lagos faces a similar challenge in the modern age. Peller’s allegations have again raised questions about crowd control and security beyond event halls.

Authorities have not announced any arrests or issued an official statement regarding the alleged incidents. As attention now shifts to the couple’s white wedding, the real story extends beyond one celebrity celebration. It touches on the broader responsibility of protecting public spaces where joy gathers in large numbers.

After all, a successful wedding is remembered not only for the vows exchanged inside the hall, but also for whether every guest returned home with nothing missing except the desire for the celebration to continue.
