The political landscape of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is currently marked by controversy as Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the party’s National Secretary, has publicly alleged forgery of his signature on an official letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The letter, dated August 25, 2025, and referenced PDP/DOM/GF.2/Vol. 1M/25-140, pertains to the PDP’s 2025 elective national convention and was purportedly co-signed by Anyanwu and the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum.
In a formal letter addressed to the Acting Chairman of INEC, Anyanwu dismissed the validity of the document, clarifying that he neither signed nor authorized the letter. He expressed shock at discovering a forged or cloned version of his signature on the official communication and called for a thorough investigation into what he described as a criminal act. Anyanwu called on the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, and INEC to investigate the collusion he alleges between some PDP officials and elements within INEC, urging prosecution of those responsible.

This claim has sparked significant debate within the party. While Anyanwu insists on his non-involvement, party leaders maintain that no forgery has occurred. A statement from the PDP emphasized that the letter was duly co-signed by Anyanwu and Damagum. During the 102nd National Executive Committee meeting, the issue was discussed with Governor Bala Mohammed affirming that all communications to INEC were signed by the party’s National Working Committee. Sources within the party suggest that Anyanwu did not raise any objection during the meeting, stirring speculation that his forgery claim might be influenced by external pressures.
The controversy centers on the legitimacy of the communication related to the forthcoming PDP National Convention scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State. The party stresses unity and readiness to hold the convention despite the allegations, insisting that the turmoil will not derail their plans..

Documents and images circulating alongside the allegations show the contentious letter bearing signatures confirmed by party sources to be forged, intensifying calls for prompt and transparent investigations. This crisis unfolds against the backdrop of intense political activity as Nigeria approaches critical electoral milestones.
The unfolding situation demands close monitoring as the PDP navigates these internal challenges and the broader implications for Nigeria’s political stability
