Ibadan, Oyo State – Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has pledged to restructure the Alesinloye Market in Ibadan to prevent future fire outbreaks. This commitment follows a recent fire that resulted in significant losses for traders.
During an inspection of the market, Makinde expressed his concern that the existing fire station was unable to effectively contain the blaze. He affirmed that the government will focus on developing a market layout that incorporates fire prevention measures.
In addition to the restructuring plans, Governor Makinde announced immediate palliative measures to support the fire victims. He also suspended the planned demolition of a section of the market until suitable alternatives are available for the affected traders.
Makinde emphasized the importance of collaboration between the state government, Ibadan South-West Local Government, and Ibadan South LCDA to mitigate the impact of the fire on traders. He also highlighted the need for public awareness campaigns to promote fire safety and caution in storing flammable materials.
