Osun Police Read Riot Act Over Planned Cult Protests and Retaliatory Killings

​OSOGBO — The Osun State Police Command has issued a stern warning against unauthorized demonstrations and self-help measures, following intelligence reports of a planned protest by a faction styling itself as the “Congress of Cultists.”

​The security alert comes on the heels of the recent homicide of Dauda Oyeyemi, widely known as Emir, whose death has triggered a volatile chain of events across the state. According to intelligence gathered by law enforcement, the group—reportedly linked to the Neo-Black Movement (Black Axe)—had issued a seven-day ultimatum demanding the arrest of those responsible for Oyeyemi’s demise, threatening widespread unrest if their demands went unheeded.

​Tensions escalated further following a subsequent murder in Osogbo. Another resident, Adejuwon Adekunle (popularly called Asa), was killed at his barbecue spot near Dele Yes Sir. Investigators note that Adekunle’s death followed his recording of a video wherein an individual named Alowonle distanced himself from Oyeyemi’s assassination. Security agencies believe the planned Monday protests were a facade intended to mobilize rival factions for violent retaliatory clashes.

​In an official statement released on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, emphasized that the command will adopt a zero-tolerance policy toward any breach of public order.

​”The police and other security agencies will not fold their hands and allow miscreants to use any opportunity to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere and destruction of lives and properties. Our operatives will respond decisively and appropriately to any action capable of threatening the peace and security of the state,” the statement warned.

​Reassuring residents of the state’s proactive stance, the police revealed that discreet investigations into the string of killings have already generated significant leads. While several primary suspects remain at large, comprehensive manhunts are underway.

​The command has urged members of the public to reject incitement and utilize lawful channels for grievance resolution. Citizens possessing actionable intelligence regarding the homicides are encouraged to come forward, with authorities guaranteeing absolute confidentiality to protect informants as the state moves to restore calm and bring perpetrators to justice.
