The Osun State Government has adhered to the order of the state High Court, which prohibited Governor Ademola Adeleke from presenting the Staff of Office to the new Aree of Iree, Oba Muritala Oyelakin.
While confirming that Oba Oyelakin had been appointed and installed, the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, clarified that the formal presentation of the Staff of Office and instrument of appointment to Oba Oyelakin has been postponed until further notice, in compliance with the court’s order.
Alimi emphasized that the government’s decision was merely ceremonial and did not invalidate the earlier approval granted to Oba Oyelakin as the substantive Aree of Iree by the Osun State Executive Council under Governor Ademola Adeleke’s leadership.
Despite the court’s decision, Alimi urged Oba Oyelakin and the people of Iree to remain calm and law-abiding.

He assured that the Osun State Government, led by Senator Ademola Adeleke, remains committed to upholding the rule of law, directing the Ministry of Justice to ensure prompt compliance with the court’s interim order.
The restraining order, issued on May 3, followed a motion ex parte filed by Oba Raphael Oluponle, who sought to restrain Adeleke from installing Oba Oyelakin as Aree pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
Other defendants in the suit include the State Attorney General, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Boripe North Local Council Development Area, Osolo of Iree, Chief Sobalaje Alao, Prince Muritala Oyelakin, and three others.
