Osun Amotekun Nabs Trio in N4.5m Steel Heist, Others for Burglary

Osogbo, Osun State – Operatives of the Osun State Amotekun Corps have apprehended three individuals suspected of stealing iron steel valued at over N4.5 million from their employer in Ede. In separate incidents, the security outfit also arrested two men for residential and construction site burglaries across the state.

The three primary suspects in the steel theft, identified as Wilson Titus (26), Gabriel Simon (23), and Ogundele Sunday (32), were taken into custody during a surveillance operation at the company’s premises in Ede. According to a statement released on Sunday by Corps spokesperson Yusuf Idowu, Wilson confessed that the trio had been systematically stealing iron steel from the company and selling it to scrap dealers at Sabo in Ede.

Wilson further revealed that the stolen materials were sold for amounts ranging between N3,000 and N7,000, depending on their size, before their eventual arrest. Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their operations and to identify any other individuals involved in the illegal scrap dealings.

More Arrests for Burglary and Theft

In a distinct operation, Ogunbunmi Yemi (38) was arrested in Ila-Orangun following a report of a residential burglary. Yemi is accused of breaking into a home and absconding with various household items, including a television set, a generator, and iron rods. The suspect reportedly admitted to the crime, stating his intention to sell the stolen goods to support himself.

Similarly, Biodun Akinwale (32) was apprehended red-handed while dismantling aluminum fabrications from a newly constructed building within the Ede North Local Government Secretariat. Akinwale had reportedly forced his way through windows and fittings before a vigilant resident alerted the authorities, leading to his swift arrest.
