Osimhen’s Classroom Ambition: Striker Eyes University Degree After Retirement

Nigerian international and Galatasaray forward, Victor Osimhen, has revealed a compelling personal ambition that extends well beyond the football pitch: the desire to return to school and earn a university degree once he concludes his professional career.

The 27-year-old, widely regarded as one of Africa’s most successful footballers, shared his intentions in a recent interview that has since resonated deeply with fans across social media. Reflecting on his journey from humble beginnings to global prominence, Osimhen emphasized that while the lessons learned throughout his career have been invaluable, formal education remains a milestone he is determined to reach.

”As an adult, not everything I learned in school. There are some kinds of life lessons you encounter through life’s journey,” Osimhen remarked. “For me, it would be an amazing thing to also try to get a degree, which I’m still considering because football, you won’t play for so long—probably 20 or 25 years—and then you’re done.”

Beyond personal fulfillment, the former African Footballer of the Year stated that his goal is to set a standard for the younger generation. He hopes to inspire aspiring athletes and young people who may have been forced to abandon their education due to financial or personal hardships.

”In as much as I have a lot of things to fall back to when I’m done, I think it’s still important for me to set an example, to set a standard for the younger generation that even though you dropped out due to some kind of challenges, it’s something you can always go back to. School is always there,” he explained.

Osimhen’s message aligns with his long-standing advocacy for educational priorities among youth athletes. Earlier this year, during a visit to the Beyond Limits Football Academy in Ogun State, he urged young players not to neglect their academic development, highlighting the relatively short lifespan of a professional playing career.

While Osimhen has yet to disclose a specific timeline or his intended field of study, his vision has been met with widespread acclaim. Fans have lauded the striker for prioritizing lifelong learning and demonstrating that professional success does not preclude the pursuit of academic excellence.
