“Senator Adams Oshiomhole has stated that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is actively rectifying the economic mismanagement inherited from the previous government, expressing optimism for improved living standards in the near future.
During a recent interview, Oshiomhole emphasized the severe economic challenges faced by the current administration, particularly highlighting the “reckless use” of the “ways and means” facility. He argued that these past practices contributed significantly to the current economic hardships, including the fluctuating exchange rate and rising cost of living.
“Truly, this country was badly mismanaged. The economy was badly mismanaged. This is not to blame anyone. That is to speak to facts. So I think we can say, the worst is over. We are going to begin to witness improvement in quality of standard of living,” Oshiomhole stated.
He also pointed out some of the actions taken by president Tinubu, to correct the economic issues. “An exchange regime where $20 million was allocated at N350 to the dollar, only for it to be resold at a higher rate, was eliminated,” Oshiomhole said. “The president gets the same exchange rate as every Nigerian. That took courage.”
While acknowledging the current economic difficulties experienced by Nigerians, Oshiomhole expressed confidence that the administration’s reforms would yield positive results. He also called on employers to ensure that workers are paid living wages, so that the effect of the economic improvements will be felt by the common people.
It is important to note that the current economic climate in Nigeria is complex, and there are varying perspectives on the effectiveness of the current administrations policies. Ongoing monitoring of the economic indicators will be needed to fully understand the long term effects of the current policies.”
